Why This Event Is A Must For Motorsport Enthusiasts
Famed for its record breaking lap times, legendary drivers and international status, the Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge is preparing to raise the flags on its eighth annual event. Expected to attract a record number of crowds as well as some of the world’s leading teams, we have taken a look back on the races origin and just what makes this attack event one of the World’s most prestigious.
From its humble beginnings in Sydney at former race track Oran Park Raceway back in 2008, motor racing enthusiast Ian Baker established what is now one of the World’s most popular Time Attack events after a successful trip to Japan’s Tsukuba Circuit. Yokohama has been a proud sponsor and partner with the promoter Superlap Australia since the beginning and proudly continues the partnership into 2016.
The Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge accommodates an array of some of the highest calibre of teams from all around the world resulting in a high level of competition and some record breaking and truly breathtaking lap times. The event highlights the skill and power behind not only the drivers but also the tyres. As exclusive control tyre to World Time Attack competitors, Clubsprint class compete on the Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08R street/track tyre while Open, Pro-Am and Pro Classes use the exclusive Yokohama ADVAN A050 R-spec race tyres which are only available in Australia and Japan.
The Yokohama ADVAN A050’s are a favourite amongst racers due to their stability, speed, endurance and performance in both wet and dry weather. Designed in a way that heats the rubber quickly and with a tread pattern optimised for racing, the Yokohama ADVAN A050’s have been credited by numerous time attack racers for helping them achieve better results on the track.
At Yokohama, we are incredibly proud to be part of the action packed 2-day event and cannot wait to see both local and international teams compete for a spot on the podium. If you would like to join us, Click here for tickets. and visit us on our stand located in Pit Lane next to Building B.
